Mercedes Sánchez-Agustino
Mercedes Sanchez-Agustino, known artistically and in her city as Chuneta, was born in Pontevedra (Spain). She graduated in Fine Arts in Painting from the University of Salamanca in 1997, creating highly varied work, in which she mixed painting with sculpture and in which she tried with textures and materials. She also had a significant contribution in terms of cinema, as she made artistic animation short films. Between 2005 and 2008 she took doctorate courses in Aesthetics of Art in the Faculties of Philosophy and Architecture of the UPV. Shortly thereafter, she received the artistic creation grant Diputación Foral de Guipúzcoa and artistic residency in the center Arteleku.
As an animation filmmaker, she has participated with other artists in the short animation film BERBAOC, which was selected in 131 festivals, obtaining severals awards such as as Alcine and Medina del Campo. Furthermore, she attended several workshops between 2007 and 2013, learning different techniques and exploring experimental animation through stop motion and painting. She participates in screen-printing, painting and animation workshops and her work has been exhibited in numerous cities since 1989 such as Madrid, Vigo, Pontevedra or Donostia-San Sebastián. She regularly performs exhibitions both individually and collectively, being considered an innovative artist, a pictorial researcher. In Arteleku since 2003 she has developed a new line of her painting: invested in the pleasure of painting, of investigating with new textures, new pictorial materials and new techniques.
