“One of the names that has always been associated with postcards in Spain is that of the artist Elsi Gumier, who was not only a pianist and actress but also a highly skilled illustrator. She worked in the film industry as a musical performer and animator and was a pioneer of animated films in the country. After the Civil War, Elsi devoted herself to illustrating postcards of typical costumes and to giving occasional piano recitals in Cuenca, her home town. She began to collaborate with large publishing houses such as Postales Alcalá and Heliotipa Artística Española, which distributed the cards throughout the country. Other artists were Isabel Iraola and María Rosa Bendala.”
