Marieka Walsh is an Australian Director, Writer and Animator. In 2013 her unique sand animation THE HUNTER (SXSW, Palm Springs, Sydney International Film Festival) won several international awards as well as the Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts Award (AACTA) for Best Animation. In 2014 she directed and animated the opening short ‘ASH WEDNESDAY’ as part of THE TURNING anthology (Berlinale, Melbourne International Film Festival) and worked on THAT SUGAR FILM a feature documentary, where she illustrated the history of sugar in sugar/ sand for a scene with Hugh Jackman.
Recently she completed THE CROSSING, an animated short that premiered at Annecy Int. Animation Festival 2016) and won ‘Best Short Animation 2016’ at The Sydney Film festival. The film was funded by Screen Australia and written, directed and animated by Marieka.
She has a background in visual art and in 2014 took part in the Graphic Festival with an illustrated story for Radio With Pictures at The Sydney Opera House. Her animation/ video art pieces have won numerous awards and been shown at galleries in Sydney and Melbourne including the Australian Centre for Moving Image (ACMI).
Marieka has experience animating for video clips, interstitials and commercials in 2D and stop motion.
